OUR COLCHESTER PROJECT
Our Black Dog Theatre Creation is now entering its fifth project and we couldn't be anymore excited. Our group is open to adults suffering from poor confidence, self-esteem or mental health issues. We are now also welcoming family, friends or anyone who cares and supports those affected by mental health issues to join us to. We are a very friendly, supportive group who simply use performance skills to have fun and build our confidence.

TWO By Jim Cartwright
TWO is hilarious, yet heart-breaking, and presents a slice of working-class life in a local pub in the 1980s. With a constantly quarrelling landlord and landlady, and the dozen regulars pulling up a stool, all life is present in this pub. It is the heart of communities. It is where people laugh, share stories, celebrate and mourn. It is a place of failed aspirations and unfulfilled lives. Through this range of colourful characters, the rich tapestry of their interconnecting lives is revealed. With the fragile relationship of our less than cordial hosts at breaking point, a rollercoaster of emotions unfolds.
Performed as an Audio play during the lockdown by members of the Black Dog Theatre Creation via Zoom from their own living rooms. This is a wonderful raw performance with no gimmicks included. Just pure storytelling and acting.
BLACK DOG THEATRE CREATION COLCHESTER NEWS
NEW PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCED
We are extremely pleased to announce that we have created a new three-year partnership with Colchester Borough Council. We have also teamed up with the Colchester Community 360 where we will base our workshops once it is safe to do so.
WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS
Our group have gone through several changes and we’re also delighted to welcome several new faces to the group.
THANK YOU TO BOTH WAITROSE AND ASDA COMMUNITY FUNDS
We’ve been extremely lucky to have received two donations from two of our local stores. Waitrose, Colchester kindly gave us a small donation towards our 2020 project. We’ve also received a donation from our local Asda Community Foundation to support our 2021 project.
ZOOM WORKSHOPS WORKING A TREAT
Ok, so it’s taken a little bit of getting used to, but our workshops are now working a treat on Zoom. Apart from me appearing upside down of course! We’ve been working on creating our very own murder mystery audio play in the style of an Agatha Christie radio play and everyone is doing so well. It’s been great fun. We’re now about to start recording it. Once edited, we will be streaming it via You Tube for free. Watch this space!
PUPPETRY FOR WELLBEING COURSE
We recently joined forces with The Puppet Soup Theatre Company and Artist Jacob Anderson to deliver a free 3-Week course online via Zoom. The course was designed to use the creative arts to support people stuck at home during the lockdown. Members from both Black Dog groups worked with members of our Story Box and Unscene Women’s group as well as members from The Puppet Soup projects. We even had someone joining us from the US. The project was a wonderful success, and we were taught how to make our own puppets using materials found at home and how to design and make our own pop up theatre model.
Since we began the Black Dog Theatre Creation we have been incredibly lucky to have been supported by the many organisations including:
